Storm Shelter Specifications

Providence Storm Shelters provide EF5 storm shelters, tornado rooms and safe rooms.

STANDARD FEATURES of EF-5 rated, above ground steel storm shelters distributed by Providence Storm Shelters.

STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY

Our shelters consist of ¼” steel plate with ¼”  structural reinforcement along sides and roof. Each shelter has an additional 10,000 lb. rated reinforced roof.  As a result, our Shelters exceed FEMA’s 320/361 specifications, are ICC-500 Hurricane rated  and also Debris impact tested at the Wind Science Research Center at Texas Tech University. This makes our shelters one of the safest, strongest, and heaviest shelters available.   Our shelters weigh over 3,000 pounds for the smaller ones and more as the size increases, significantly heavier than other manufacturers. These shelters are purposely overbuilt to protect you and your family.

DOOR

¼” Steel plate, 30" and 36" handicap accessible, fully framed with three tornado slide bars. Door opens inward eliminating entrapment from outside debris. We have the strongest standard locking system on the market with an inside security door lock. Vault type 1" diameter solid steel locking bolts. (3) Three heavy duty barrel hinges with grease fittings. These features make our door one of the strongest standard doors available. Each new shelter comes with a commercial grade Schlage deadbolt, or an optional illuminated digital keypad deadbolt, because you may not have time to find the keys in an emergency.

VENTILATION

Every storm shelter comes with at least one large vent, laser cut and covered with ¼” steel debris guards. The 4x6 storm shelter and above come with 2 vents (upper and lower) with debris guards.

FINISH AND CORROSION PROTECTION

Your choice of White, Gray, or Cream baked-on powder coat enamel. Custom colors available at an additional charge.

ANCHORING

We drill into your concrete garage or carport slab floor and attach the safe room with 5/8" Simpson Titen Head anchor bolts, each having 14,465 lbs. of stress.  The anchors are inserted through shelter floor surpassing FEMA's 320/361 guidance for anchoring steel shelters.

BENCH SEATING IS STANDARD ON ALL SAFE ROOMS 4 X 6 OR LARGER

WARRANTY

The steel above-ground safe room carrying the “Providence Storm Shelters” brand by Providence Storm Shelters of Tennessee, LLC carries a lifetime limited warranty to the original purchaser, under reasonable circumstances. In the unlikely event of needed repair due to construction defect of craftsmanship, Providence Storm Shelters LLC will, at its own expense, repair or replace the defect or defective part. This warranty covers repairs made by a Providence Storm Shelters of Tennessee LLC authorized repairman due to defects in construction or craftsmanship (i.e. broken weld or hinge). Reasonable circumstances include the use of the shelter as it is intended. Any intentional damage will void this warranty. This warranty excludes damage caused by any natural occurrence, such as severe weather, structural settling, or fire.

The relocation of The Safe Room by persons other than Providence Storm Shelters authorized personnel or retailers, or those without written permission or consent from Providence Storm Shelters will void this warranty.

Keyed and/or digital locks and/or key-locking door handles carry a 1-year replacement warranty, which supersedes the first year of the manufacturer’s warranty. All other non-structural options such as lights, etc., carry a 1-year replacement warranty, unless otherwise specified in writing.

This warranty is transferable to a new owner, and good for 10 years to the new owner from the date of the original install.

As this shelter/safe room is built of 100% solid plate steel, surface rust can sometimes occur. Although rare, this is normal, and will in no way effect the performance of the shelter/safe room. It is recommended that any scratches or small areas of surface rust be touched up by the homeowner using acrylic or epoxy-based paint. The maintenance of the paint is the sole responsibility of the purchaser.
